Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Specialized, family-centered psychiatric care for children and teens—from comprehensive ADHD evaluations to treatment for anxiety, depression, and behavioral challenges.

Nurturing Young Minds

Mental health conditions in children and adolescents are more common than many realize. According to the CDC, about 1 in 9 U.S. children has ever been diagnosed with ADHD. In 2024, about 1 in 7 U.S. adolescents aged 12–17 (15.4%) had a major depressive episode in the past year.

At Concierge Psychiatry of Main Line, Dr. Aqsa Malik, board-certified in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, provides developmentally informed care that recognizes the unique needs of growing minds. With the appropriate written permission, we work closely with families, schools, and pediatricians to ensure comprehensive support.

Family-Centered Approach

Family involvement is an important part of successful care for children and teens. Our approach includes regular parent consultations, family sessions when appropriate, and coordination with schools and other providers.

Consent and Confidentiality for Teens

In Pennsylvania, under Act 65 of 2020, teens aged 14 and older may consent to their own outpatient mental health treatment, and parents or guardians may also consent on their behalf. We encourage family involvement and talk openly with families about what will be shared and with whom, always following Pennsylvania law. We share information with schools or other providers only with the appropriate written authorization.

Evidence-Based Assessment

Our comprehensive evaluations use validated assessment tools, including structured diagnostic interviews and rating scales. When psychological or psychoeducational testing is needed, it is provided through licensed psychologists we coordinate with.

For ADHD evaluations, we follow DSM-5-TR criteria, the American Academy of Pediatrics ADHD guideline, and current AACAP clinical guidance, gathering information from multiple sources including parents, teachers, and direct observation.

Understanding the Numbers

  • ~11% have diagnosed anxiety
  • ~4% have diagnosed depression

Source: CDC, National Survey of Children's Health, 2022–2024. Earlier recognition and treatment are associated with better long-term outcomes for many childhood conditions.

Our Treatment Approach

We follow current clinical guidelines, including those of the American Academy of Pediatrics and AACAP, to provide thoughtful, evidence-based care for your child.

Comprehensive Evaluation

Thorough diagnostic assessment including developmental history, behavioral observations, standardized rating scales, and collateral information from schools and other providers.

Medication Management

When indicated, we prescribe FDA-approved medications with careful monitoring, including close follow-up when starting or changing antidepressants, as the FDA recommends for young people. For school-age children and teens with ADHD, FDA-approved medications, most often stimulants, combined with behavioral and school supports are the best-supported treatment. For preschool-age children, parent training in behavior management comes first. We review benefits, side effects and safe storage of any controlled medication with every family.

Therapy Integration

We coordinate with licensed therapists for evidence-based therapies, including CBT for anxiety and depression, parent management training, and social skills interventions. Additional therapy services are coming as licensed therapists join our practice.

School Collaboration

With your written authorization, we work with schools on 504 plans, IEPs, and classroom accommodations. The school team decides eligibility, and schools must consider outside evaluations as part of that process.
